Master Electric – Then and Now

In 2005, Russ and Beth Smith left the comfort and security of their long-held jobs to chase down the “American Dream” and become business owners. Armed with his expertise in electrical contracting and her experience in business management – they founded their new company in their hometown of Gladwin, Michigan. With one truck, one amazing foreman, one dedicated office manager, and one common vision – Master Electric came to life.

During the first two years of operation, the newly formed Master Electric team was successful in winning and completing several significant projects for some very prominent owners: Aleda Lutz VA Medical Center, Saginaw Valley State University, The US Air National Guard, The United States Federal Court System and The Dow Chemical Company. Amazingly, by the close of year three, Master Electric had more than tripled in size, despite the effects of a failing national economy.

Master Electric continued to grow and diversify over the next several years. In 2010, they expanded the company’s portfolio with the addition of a very successful Design/Build Division. In 2013, a Prefabrication Shop was opened and our new Data & Security Systems Division completed work on its first security system installation project. The acquisition of an Escanaba firm in 2014 opened up new opportunities for Master Electric in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin and added unique new talent to the company roster – extending the company’s work experience into the Industrial Maintenance Market. By 2017, Master Electric had become an AT&T Certified Contractor for Outside Plant Construction and continued its quest to stay on the cutting edge of an ever-changing construction economy.

Today, Master Electric is driven by a fierce sense of pride. We remain centered around our strict set of standards and have surrounded ourselves with an amazing team of employees who share our vision and values.

Pre-Fabrication

Our PreFab team is very efficient at building assemblies and prewiring fixtures in our climate-controlled PreFab shop. They have a great relationship with our field leaders and go out of their way to boost the efficiency of the Master Electric team on every project they are part of. Most all products are delivered to Master Electric’s PreFabrication Shop where it will be immediately inspected for open and/or concealed damage.

Once inspected and inventoried, the product will be used for prefabricating assemblies that will be delivered to the job site for immediate installation. The PreFab shop provides a weatherproof – temperature-controlled environment for stored materials and protection from any unforeseen job site mishaps.

On every project that Master Electric is awarded our team evaluates whether there is an opportunity for prefabrication to save our customers money. Master Electric has provided prefabrication for projects such as Peninsula Federal Credit Union, McLaren Bay Region – West Branch Ambulatory Center, Saganing Casino, and Camp Grayling. Whether it’s a small job or a major construction project, our PreFab team is ready!
